Job Description
The Operations Assistant is responsible for all cargo movements in and out of the Wilmington port. The candidate will be able to manage container equipment allocation and loading of containers. Identify efficiencies in operation to maximize vessel capabilities, and identify equipment needs based on changing cargo volumes. This candidate will work with USDA, Port Administration, customers, CSR's and Stevedore to ensure all customer needs are met and exceeded.
 
Duties:
-Accountable for the movement of over 20,800 (north/southbound) containers a year in and out of the port of Wilmington containing various cargo, (hazardous, refrigerated, dry) assuring correct destination, handling, stowage and documentation of each container and products within container.
-Instruct and coordinate with carriers on the loading of over 150,000 tons of 3rd party cargo into approximately 18,200 southbound containers a year. Also, manages TIR gate personnel on yard layout to ensure most efficient discharge operation with stevedores.
-Advises CSR's, BDM's, etc. of potential issues before they arise and identifies key opportunities for Chiquita and its customers. Works one on one with the Wilmington Liner Coordinator to expedite necessary releases from U.S Govt. agencies.
-Analyzes Wilmington cargo volumes against GWF bookings to allocate appropriate equipment (high cube, reefer, 40, and 43 containers) to meet local shipper's requirements.
-Assist in vessel discharge/loading operations, acts as terminal superintendent in his/her absence along with Dispatcher in his/her absence. Analyzes and anticipates problems-issues with various cargo/terminal situations formulating plans to resolve problems-issues quickly and efficiently to minimize impact on Chiquita and customers.
-Supervises the inspection and or fumigation for proprietary and/or liner cargo for Chiquita's key customers. Ensure fruit is handled properly, quality checked and documented and stored in containers or reefer warehouse. Evaluates and establishes operating procedures of banana transfers as necessary. Coordinates the arrival of trucks, containers between CSR, carriers and customers to assure effective and efficient loading. Responsible for inventory of equipment to meet customer needs and ensure the proper operation of customer's equipment before loading.
-Ensure the accurate and timely input of information into CFMS. Production of reports using excel and Vilden for various entities, (state, proprietary, U.S. Customs, etc.) reporting tonnages and volumes.
-Supervise Quality inspection to assure fruit meets or exceeds Chiquita quality standards for key customers.
-Receive US Coast Guard certification for Facility Security Officer Responsibilities and assume role as facility alternative officer.
-Oversee Wilmington Corporate Safety Program.
 
Experience:
Minimum of four years working in a marine port environment working in terminal operations.
 
Education:
4 Year Degree Required
 
Additional Job Requirements:
-TWIC Card Certified. A necessary requirement for employment.
-Knowledge of US Customs Regulations a plus
-MS Office Proficient
-English required, Spanish a plus
