Edmunds' software engineers develop next-generation automotive applications and technologies that have established Edmunds.com as the number one destination for new car shoppers. The explosive growth of mobile smart phones and their impact to internet usage has established the need for enabling access to all available information and multimedia assets to internet enabled devices. The Mobile & Emerging Technologies team is responsible for providing consumers who use smart phones, tablets, e-readers the ability to access the wealth of Edmunds automotive content to aid in researching and evaluating a new car purchase.

Our projects include working on advanced user interfaces for unlocking user preference, image recognition, advanced data processing and information retrieval to support the complex nature of the automotive information vertical. We value high performance user interface experiences and rely on automation to scale our products and the organization that needs to support it.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop applications for Smart Phones (Apple iPhone, Google Android and Blackberry) and Tablets (Apple, Amazon Kindle) using native API and development languages.
  • Write server-side code for web-based applications, create robust high-volume production applications, and develop prototypes quickly. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and application engineers to refine and improve the complete user experience.
  • Partner with peers in application engineering to ensure interactive techniques and technologies translate into world-class products and services.
  • Enthusiastically embrace new technologies and platforms for our applications.

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science
  • Extensive programming experience in Java and/or C/C++ (strong OO skills preferred).
  • Internet and network skills including HTML, XML/XSLT, JSON, REST, HTTP, SSL, TCP/IP.
  • Several years of large systems software design and development experience, with extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.

  • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Knowledge of AJAX and dynamic Web page components are a plus (i.e. JavaScript, Python and/or Perl)
  • Coding skills in Objective C, database design and SQL, and/or knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming are a plus.
