Job Description
Edmunds' infrastructure operations team is looking for an innovative and forward-thinking team player who will contribute to infrastructure design efforts and provide ongoing support for the company's pre-release environment re-design initiatives. The Sr. Systems Administrator will provide technology support and direction to the infrastructure team, ensuring that all technologies work effectively together to deliver the technical/infrastructure architecture for large initiatives.

The ideal candidate must be creative, innovative, detail-oriented and eager to work with the latest technologies. They will maintain Edmunds' infrastructure, operating systems, storage and supporting services. Primary responsibilities include automation of operating system installation, configuration and integration of infrastructure software systems for end-to-end automation.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of a 24/7 high traffic web environment as well as assist and plan new build-outs and initiatives.
  • Maintenance and configuration of servers and other computing equipment.
  • Programming and automation of system processes, deployments and infrastructure management.
  • Design, configure and report on server and systems monitoring, backups and utilization.
  • General scripting, automation and troubleshooting of systems and web applications.
  • Provide systems support to developers, testers and end-users.
  • Provide solid mentoring and guidance to other systems administrators
  • Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services
  • Aid in coordinating all security incident response events from detection to final remediation.

    Qualifications:

  • 5+ years Linux systems administration experience in a large-scale, high-availability web environment.
  • Advanced working knowledge of DNS, LDAP, DHCP, and RHEL4+5.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, shell, etc.
  • Experience supporting a high traffic consumer website in a 24/7 environment
  • Hands-on experience with full site deployments from the planning/design stages to full implementation
  • Experience with server configuration automation tools and automating processes
  • Experience supporting a heavy NAS/NFS environment, Netapp preferred
  • Experience managing and supporting a large monitoring infrastructure (sitescope/nagios/hp openview, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively explain, describe, or convey ideas in individual or group situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a systems administration team
  • Possess a solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts: principles of routing, client/server programming, and the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts.
  • Possess a solid understanding of an operating system: paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), and use of performance analysis to tune systems.

    Preferred Experience:

  • Experience supporting Java application servers (WebLogic, tomcat, OC4J)
  • Systems programming, performance optimization and network design experience
